§ 14-25. Hazardous materials incident reimbursement.

  • (a)

    St. Tammany Parish Fire Protection District No. 1 shall have the authority to charge any person causing or contributing to a discharge of a hazardous or nonhazardous material or substance the extraordinary expenses of undertaking any remedial actions necessary to contain, abate, clean up, restore or remove the discharge.

    (b)

    The board of commissioners of St. Tammany Parish Fire Protection District No. 1 who assess charges for remedial costs for action taken in cleaning up any discharge of hazardous or nonhazardous material or substance shall also have the authority to use any reasonable means to collect and enforce the collection of such costs.

    (c)

    In any such action, the board of commissioners of St. Tammany Parish Fire Protection District No. 1 shall be entitled to recover the amount of such costs, together with costs of court and reasonable attorney fees.
